Surgical Clinic and Nursing Staff

Like any successful enterprise, much of what makes the Centre run smoothly is “behind the scenes.” Our nursing staff are regular , rather than casual, workers and consider the centre home. Despite the world-wide shortage of nurses, these are highly experienced and qualified operating room and recovery specialists.

Operating Room Nursing Staff

Surgical Clinic & Nursing StaffSurgical Clinic & Nursing StaffOperating Room Nurses perform a multi-faceted role, assisting the surgeon with surgery, the anasethesiologist with beginning and ending anaesthesia, and ensuring the highest standards of peri-operative surgical technique are maintained.

Post Anaesthetic Recovery Nurses

Surgical Clinic & Nursing Staff

Our recovery room staff have a gentle, nurturing approach to the period after surgery when patients are most in need; getting patients back to a state of awareness, attending to concerns about pain or nausea, and making sure you you have a clear understanding of what to expect after you leave the clinic.

Central Supply and Sterilization Facility Technicians

Our Central Supply and Sterilization Facility is the envy of other similar units. Because, in his tours, Dr. Gelfant had seen how this vital module of a surgical centre was often an afterthought, cramped, and compromised, it was designed in so as to meet the highest standards.

Separate rooms connected by a “pass-through” allow used and soiled surgical supplies and instruments to be decontaminated, washed and passed through to the clean room where the surgical sets are completed, wrapped and placed in sterilizers, which are like large pressure cookers.  Steam, the traditional gold standard of sterilization technology, is used to ensure sterility, but accurate monitoring of the effectiveness of the sterilization process must also be done.  Frequent tests with a bacteria kill are done and every load sterilized is logged to ensure quality control.

Our Housekeeping Staff

Surgical Clinic & Nursing StaffAt the end of the surgical day, the work isn’t completed until the rooms are ready for the next day. Housekeeping in a surgery centre demands the utmost attention to detail.

The walls are washed regularly, all surfaces are disinfected, beds are made, the laundry is done with special care, and the floors are cleaned.

The centre is proud to have Elena Jackson on staff with us, quietly behind the scenes, keeping our facility looking like the kind of place we would be comfortable and confident having surgery even if it was on ourselves.
